And what a week it was in the NFL this past week; a week where we saw the ghosts of creamsicles past shock the Packers, the Broncos and Steelers be who the Flow thought they were, the Tribal Leaders launch one of the most excruciatingly irrelevant covers in recent memory, the Bears petition for Tennessee’s spot in the WTE division, and the Bengals…well the Bengals were just great. While this week’s picks weren’t dominant record wise, the comments behind the picks certainly bode well for a second half kick for the Flow as really only the 4th quarter massacre in the Bay of Pigs Bowl and Dallas’ continued resurgence truly surprised us. With that in mind, let’s take a walk through some weekly musings on the games that were:
Matt Berry (Sigh…) Being Matt Berry
in this week’s TMR Love/Hate senor berry unfortunately notes:
Carson Palmer, QB, Bengals: Traditionally does not play well against the Ravens, who looked like they figured some things out in their secondary last week.
now, a person who actually watches football games – ESPN’s AFC North blogger James Walker – actually spent the time to review Palmer’s record vs. Baltimore as opposed to making silly blanket statements, resulting in the following article, literally TITLED “Palmer at his Best Against Ravens.”
WHOOPS!!!!!
in completely unrelated news, get ready for the Bucs return to the creamsicle jerseys this weekend!!!
NFL Picks and ‘icks – Week 9
All of the sudden we’re into the second football weekend in November already, having passed the halfway point in this 2009 NFL season. As the second half of the season kicks off we start to see some teams fade as they struggle with the colder, more inclement weather and face mounting injury concerns, while others dig their heels in and prepare for playoff runs. November is one of the best sports months of the year, we’ve got pro football, college football, pro and college basketball, and even hockey to sustain us in our march towards Thanksgiving, and Vegas has spent the first two months of the season tweaking their formulas to ensure they are prepared to take as much money as possible from you just in time for the holidays. Last week the B Flow struggled a bit with the regular picks, although admittedly we did go 2-1 in LKL’s and were working on a short time frame, but a quick perusal of this week’s lines on Monday suggested the weeks of easy 60% correct are out the window. Continuing with a theme started last week we will post a full pic of the week’s ‘ick(s) right into the post to get us started on the right foot. This week’s theme, in honor of the humongous Alabama-LSU SEC showdown tomorrow at 330pm on CBS, will be girls looking hot in support of the Tide:

Excellent work girls. And now let’s get to it for a week 9 in the NFL. A week 9 in the league… where they play…

NFL Picks and ‘icks – Week 8
Abbreviated picks this week as I am running to the airport, and obviously haven’t done all of the errands I wanted to do this morning. I do sincerely apologize to those of you who were hoping to waste time with an extended picks session this week. Also, with the Bengals on a bye week, the Flow has been surprisingly out of touch with the lines this week, only learning what they were earlier this morning. This week’s ‘ick gets a full picture intro:

So, yea, she’s pretty cute – even if she is dating Derek Jeter… Regardless, let’s get to it, in the league where they play…

NFL Picks and ‘icks – Week 7!
What a year of football this is turning out to be, great teams everywhere, hilariously bad teams everywhere, and even Peter King actually using the phrase “the revenge of Cedric” in his weekly picks as a reason why the Cincinnati Bengals will win a football game this weekend. Apparently, my discussion of the league lacking parity last week incited not just one article saying the same thing (de Brandon), but also this piece on just how things have gotten so bad (courtesy of commenter “Miller”) in the salary cap era, and this article on ridiculous cap mismanagement. It seems we are all watching the same league this season, and considering that there have been 20 blowouts of 21 points or more (the 2nd most in the last 39 years) this season, it’s probably a good thing that the media is trying to pick up the why’s and how’s of the current situation. Speaking of cap mismanagement, I can think of one thing that has nothing to do with being mismanaged, and that’s the body of this week’s ‘ick, the lovely Stacy Keibler. That’s what you call asset allocation management, gentlemen – one day maybe I’ll throw a pic like that up on my twitter page, but alas, today is not that day. Getting back to football for a second – and, believe me, after scouring the internet in quest of pics of SK looking like this; I mean really, forget NSFW (and again, the Flow will never link to “European” pics), that pic is NSFLife; that is much easier said than done – this week does offer quite an interesting slate of games between teams desperately needing to make a winning statement. Beyond the Super Bowl preview in Pittsburgh, we have some intriguing showdowns in Dallas, Cincinnati, New York, and Houston to pique our interest this week, each of which should help clear up this year’s NFL picture even further. So, without any further ado – or maybe just this little tidbit further ado, there, now without any FURTHER further ado – let us move on to a week 7 in the league where they PLAY…

A Must Read for any Baseball Fan
this is one of the very best “what happened to this player” articles i have ever read in any sport. the depth of analysis and persistence of questioning on what may/may not have gone differently for Cole Hamels this year as opposed to last is the type of thing any good statistical writer should aspire to. if you dont have a subscription to BP (and you should if only from voting for me in my losing effort to Matt et al!) let me know, i will get the content to you, it’s worth it.
